There are many body butters available in stores everywhere, looking and smelling great, but when you turn its container to check its list of ingredients, you’d see that it contains chemicals, silicons and other difficult-sounding names that come with acronyms to make it easier for readers to pronounce and remember.

a. Whipped Body Butter Recipe

This recipe combines shea and cocoa butter with 2 nourishing oils which results into a highly moisturizing blend but whipping it allows for it to go on smoothly without being oily. Add a scent of peppermint or a mix of citrus and lavender to all the more relax your senses. Excellent for any skin type.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Shea Butter
  • 1/2 cup Cocoa Butter or Mango Butter
  • 1/2 cup Coconut Oil
  • 1/2 cup light oil such as almond, olive or jajoba
  • Essential oils for scent (optional)
Procedure:
  1. Combine all ingredients, except for essential oils, in a double boiler or glass bowl.
  2. Set to medium heat and stir constantly until all ingredients are melted.
  3. Remove from heat and allow to cook slightly.
  4. Transfer mixture to the fridge and allow to cool for another 1 hours. See that it starts to harden but still somewhat soft.
  5. Whip with a hand mixer for 10 minutes until it becomes fluffy.
  6. Put it back to the fridge for 10-15 minutes to set.
  7. Store in a glass jar with a lid. If your home temperature stays above 75′C, there’s a possibility that it would soften and needs to be kept at the fridge but it will stay whipped at a temperature lower than that.

b. Whipped Coconut Oil Body Butter Recipe
This coconut oil recipe requires only one ingredient and yes, that is obviously the coconut. All the rest is optional. It only takes a few minutes to make and you’ll have enough whipped body butter to last for 1-2 months. This also makes a great gift for family and friends when placed in an attractive jar.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil (optional)
  • a few drops of essential oils for fragrance

Procedure:

  1. ┬áPlace all ingredients into a mixing bowl. Do not melt the coconut oil as it can only be whipped up if it’s solid.
  2. Mix on high speed with a wire whisk for 6-7 minutes until whipped into a light, airy consistency.
  3. Spoon the whipped coconut oil body butter into a glass jar and cover tightly. Store at room temperature. If your house is so warm, store it in the refrigerator so it won’t melt the oil.

3. Homemade Body Butter Recipe

This recipe makes use of coconut oil that’s known to have amazing effects on skin. You can play around with it by adding essential oils of your choice and if you want your body butter to be scented with vanilla, make sure to strain out the vanilla seeds while the mixture is still in its liquid form.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup shea butter
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1 vanilla bean

Procedure:

  1. Melt shea butter and coconut oil in the top of a double boiler.
  2. Add vanilla bean.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool for 30 minutes.
  4. Stir in olive oil and other flavorings.
  5. Wait until oils start to partially solidify and remove the vanilla bean.
  6. Whip until a butter-like consistency is achieved.
  7. Place in a clean, glass jar.
